F-GAS Training For Handling Mobile Air Conditioning Systems
Aim of the course:
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operation of air-conditioning systems in motor vehicles.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of the use and properties of the fluorinated greenhouse gases used as refrigerants in air-conditioning systems in motor vehicles, the impact of the emissions of these gases on the environment (order of magnitude of their Global Warming Potential in relation to climate change).
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of the relevant provisions of Regulation (EC) No 842/2006 and Directive 2006/40/EC.
- Demonstrate knowledge of common procedures for recovering fluorinated greenhouse gases.
- Demonstrate correct handling of a refrigerant cylinder.
- Demonstrate the correct procedure for connecting and disconnecting a recovery set to and from the service ports of a motor vehicle air-conditioning system containing fluorinated greenhouse gases.
- Demonstrate the correct procedure for performing a full service of a mobile air-conditioning system in certain motor vehicles using a Bi-Gas Automatic Refrigerant Recovery Machine.
Entry requirements:
- Education: This course is restricted to those with an appropriate time-served apprenticeship and who are working on an automatic and reclaim charging machine. Successful learners will be assessed prior to commencement of any programme leading to this award.
- Aptitude: Numeracy, literacy and analytical skills required.
- Previous Experience: Certified apprentices who are working on an automatic and reclaim charging machine.
Course content:
Title: Handling F-Gas Mobile Air Conditioning Systems in Certain Motor Vehicles
Award: Handling F-Gas in Mobile Air-conditioning Systems MV (5N21700)
Awarding Body: QQI
Learning Outcomes:
This course will equip the participants with the skills and knowledge required to enable them carry out intrusive work on MAC systems in certain motor vehicles, that meet the current F-Gas handling standards. On successful completion of the course they will meet compliance requirements for such work as required by the Environmental Protection Agency.
On completion of this programme, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the operation of an air-conditioning unit as found in motor vehicles.
- Explain the impact of fluorinated greenhouse gases on the environment.
- Successfully recover fluorinated greenhouse gases from a motor vehicle, evacuate air-conditioning system, re-charge air-conditioning system with refrigerant gas and perform leak detection to ensure no leaks exist on air-conditioning system using an automatic refrigerant recovery machine.
- Safely handle refrigerant cylinder.
- Competently connect, dis-connect and operate Bi-Gas Automatic Refrigerant Recovery Machine connectors / adaptors to motor vehicle / cylinder.
